Neo Hwee Yong graduated from University of Reading with a LLB (Hons) degree in 2014. He completed the Bar Professional Training Course at Cardiff Law School and was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in December 2015. He was admitted to practice as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2017.

He has been with the firm since his pupillage and joined SKRINE’s Intellectual Property Division after his admission to the Malaysian Bar.

Telecommunication, Media and Technology

  • Advising on various issues concerning the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and its regulations, codes, guidelines, declarations, directions and determinations, including licensing requirements, spectrum assignments and compliance issues under voluntary industry codes.
  • Advisory work on various telecommunication and information technology initiatives and projects including cloud computing, cybersecurity, virtual advertising, enterprise communication solutions, push-to-talk communication and social media platforms.
  • Assisted clients on licensing applications made to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

Data Protection

  • Advising on issues concerning the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and its regulations, orders, codes and standards.
  • Assisted clients in registration applications made to the Department of Personal Data Protection.
  • Assisted clients in preparing, drafting and reviewing privacy policies and terms of use.

Intellectual Property

  • Conducted IP legal due diligences concerning IT and telecommunication companies.
  • Conducted review of the trademark portfolio of an international client and its associated risk of use in Malaysia.

Others

  • Advisory work on issues related to specific industries e.g. pharmaceutical products, medical devices, gambling and online gambling, general advertising etc.
