Skrine’s Aviation Practice Group is well positioned to support the diverse demands of clients within the aviation industry; ranging from airports, airlines, governmental authorities, manufacturers, aircraft finance, airport infrastructure to aerospace defense.

At Skrine we assemble a customized team of experienced professionals from various practice areas to deliver a complete and integrated solution.

We also represent clients in claims involving personal injury, death and loss or damage to property in aviation accidents.

Skrine recently won the prestigious Aviation Law Firm of the Year Award at the Asian Legal Business Malaysia Law Awards for 2016 and 2017.

   Notable Experience

  • Represented Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) against alleged losses and damages for the sum of MYR 409,438,603.94 as a result of MAHB’s alleged breaches of its statutory, contractual and/or tortious duties and obligations during its operations in KLIA 2, a low-cost terminal in Kuala Lumpur.
    The advice covers a range of issues relating to the Civil Aviation Act 1969, Civil Aviation Regulations 1996 and terms and conditions of the Condition of Use dated 1 September 2010.
  • Rendered preliminary advice to a UK-based firm on certain provisions under the Hull War Risk Insurance Policy and the Hull All Risk Insurance Policy (“Policies”) of a missing aircraft of Malaysia Airlines’ MH370. Skrine also provided a review of the aircraft hull release agreement in relation to Malaysian law.
  • Acted for Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, in the claims for delays and defects against the contractor UEMC-BINA PURI joint venture to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 project (KLIA2) the world’s largest purpose-built terminal for low-cost carriers.
  • Acted for MAHB in respect of the Penang International Airport project for claims of delay and defects. The project escalated from the original budget of RM2 billion to RM4 billion.
  • Acted for Agusta SpA, a helicopter manufacturer and its reinsurer, in an in inquest from 1997 to 2002 to ascertain the cause of death of Tan Sri Yahya in a helicopter crash in 1997.
  • Advised reinsurers on liabilities arising from a commercial airplane crash.
