Hemalatha Parasa Ramulu obtained a Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry) Degree from the University of Malaya in 2000. She thereafter obtained an LLB Degree from the University of London in 2005 and earned her Certificate of Legal Practice (Malaysia) in 2006. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2007 and commenced practice as a general litigator. She was admitted as Partner at Skrine in January 2016.

IP Litigation

  • Defended a local motor scooter and motorcycle company in an industrial design and copyright infringement claim brought by a multinational wholly owned Japanese corporation in respect of a range of their motor scooters and motorcycles.
  • Defended a local tyre maker in an action brought by a well-known Formula One related tyre maker to expunge and/or amend the allegedly similar trade mark which had been registered and had been in existence for over ten years. The action was successfully struck out and security for costs was also successfully obtained.
  • Represented an employee on the allegation of a breach of confidential information i.e. in clients list that allegedly belonged to the employer. The inter partes application for an injunction was successfully resisted.
  • Assisted in defending a multinational juice manufacturing company in an action brought by another well-known juice manufacturing company for claims relating to industrial design infringement of a bottle design used on an ambient juice product.
  • Assisted an inventor in a claim against several defendants that included a construction company and a state governmental authority in a claim of copyright and patent infringement for a prefabricated construction part that was registered by the inventor in Malaysia.
  • Defended a globally renowned plastic containers company in various actions including actions for trade libel, defamation, malicious falsehood, copyright infringement, trade mark infringement and industrial design infringement against various infringers ranging from local manufacturers, multinational plastic containers companies, internationally established plastic containers companies, suppliers, sellers and so forth.
  • Defended a globally renowned oil and gas company in various actions for trade mark infringement, passing off and breach of the Trade Description Act 2011 (“TDA”) in respect of an infringing trade mark and counterfeit goods.

Matrimonial Disputes

  • Assisted in the landmark Federal Court decision of Manokaram a/l Subramaniam v Ranjid Kaur a/p Nata Singh [2009] 1 MLJ 21.


  • Represented a director who was cited as a third party contemnor, i.e. for having allegedly aided and abetted another director allegedly in breach of an interlocutory injunction that barred that latter director from voting in a manner that impeded the removal of the former as a director at an extraordinary general meeting. The contempt action was successfully challenged and the subsequent appeal was also successfully resisted.
  • Defended a globally renowned plastic containers company in pursuing committal proceedings against contemnors for breach of injunctive orders.


  • Assisted in an action that involved a claim for damages brought by a shareholder on the basis that there was a breach of statutory duty by shareholders who had acquired more than 33% of the shareholding in a public listed company in failing to perform a mandatory general offer under the old Division 2, (Take-Overs, Mergers and Compulsory Acquisitions) of the Securities Commission Act 1993 and the Malaysian Code on Take-overs and Mergers 1998.

Trust and Deeds of Settlements

  • Assisted in defending an action that was brought by the beneficiary of a piece of property on the allegation that the Deed of Settlement that she had executed was made under duress and that she had no intention to surrender the properties in her name for re-distribution in accordance with the said deed.

Product Liability

  • Defended a medical implant manufacturer that manufactures implants that relate to the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Defended a medical implant manufacturer that manufactures implants that relate to the field of orthopaedics.


  • Assisted in an action for the purchaser who successfully resisted an action by a contributory of a company who claimed that the land which was one of the assets of the company in liquidation and purchased by the purchaser was fraudulently purchased from the Insolvency Office of Malaysia who acted as liquidators of the said company.


  • Represented various financial institutions in actions involving guarantees, performance bonds, claims of negligence and conversion of negotiable instruments, claims of fraud and/or conspiracy to defraud.
