Foo Siew Li was admitted to practice as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in September 2010. She is now a Partner with Skrine in the Dispute Resolution Group.

Her portfolio of litigation work focuses on employment and industrial relations, immigration, and shipping and maritime law. Her court experience includes attending trials at the Industrial Court and hearings and interlocutory matters at the Subordinate Courts, High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court.

  • Advising and assisting a wide range of clients including multinational corporations that employ foreign employees in Malaysia or that second/assign such employees to Malaysia, in obtaining the relevant work permits for the employees, as well as dependant passes for such employees’ family members.

Employment & Industrial Relations

  • Acted as co-counsel in various unjust dismissal claims including those involving senior management employees in the Industrial Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court;
  • Drafting and reviewing contracts of employment for permanent and fixed term employees (local and expatriates), employee handbooks and policies, data protection notices for employees, staff loan agreements;
  • Drafting and reviewing secondment agreements, supply of services agreements, and contracts for services for independent contractors;
  • Advising companies on all employment aspects of takeover of business;
  • Advising companies on employee performance management, employee investigations and disciplinary proceedings;
  • Advising companies on retrenchment exercises and voluntary separation schemes.

Shipping & Maritime

  • Acted in arresting vessels in Malaysian ports in various types of maritime claims, including for banks in the enforcement of ship mortgages, for ship managers in their claim for ship management fees and disbursements made on account of the vessel, for companies in respect of breach of bunker supply agreement as well as in other bunker supply claims;
  • Acted for ship owners in a collision claim;
  • Acted for a P&I Club in various claims in relation to contracts of carriage of goods by sea;
  • Engaged in claims by and against freight forwarders.

Other Experience

  • Acted as co-counsel in an application for recognition and enforcement of a foreign arbitral award in Malaysia;
  • Acted as counsel for banks in winding-up and bankruptcy cases;
  • Acted as counsel for companies in employee fraud cases in the Sessions Court and High Court and as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal.
