Melissa Long graduated from King's College London with a LLB (Hons) degree in 2009. She completed the Bar Vocational Course at City Law School and was subsequently called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in October 2010. She was admitted to practise as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2013.

She has been with the firm since her pupillage and joined SKRINE's Intellectual Property Division after her admission to the Malaysian Bar. She is now a Senior Associate with Skrine’s Intellectual Property Division.

Litigation / Dispute Resolution

  • Advising on IP disputes including on trademark infringement, passing off, copyright infringement and domain name disputes.
  • Assisting in filing administrative Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (“UDRP”) proceedings which successfully obtained the transfer of a disputed domain name for a non-governmental organization.
  • Assisting in litigating against various infringers of reputed direct selling company’s registered industrial designs.
  • Assisting in defending local importers, assemblers and distributors of motorcycles in copyright infringement claim relating to the design of a motorcycle.
  • Assisting in a patent related appeal to the Federal Court having obtained leave following the invalidation of a roller shutter patent by the Court of Appeal for lack of novelty and inventive step.
  • Assisting in applications to expunge and cancel registered trademarks.
  • Assisting in resisting appeal by a trademark applicant to the High Court from the decision of the Trade Mark Registrar in opposition proceedings.

IP Prosecution

  • Assisting in the prosecution of various trade mark registration applications, including defending such applications against 3rd party oppositions.
  • Assisting in various oppositions against applications for trademark registration.
  • Filing voluntary notification of copyright.


  • General advisory work on trademarks, copyright, design, patent and trade secrets/confidential information.
  • Drafting and reviewing intellectual property related contracts e.g. licensing, assignments, and technology transfers.
  • General advisory work in relation to various industry-centric regulatory frameworks e.g. medical devices, gambling, advertising and product liability.
